15 Best Engagement Photo Locations in Tampa & St. Pete (Photographer-Tested)

Choosing an engagement session location is one of the first real creative decisions you make as a newly engaged couple, and it sets the visual tone for everything that follows, your save-the-dates, your wedding website, your announcement posts, and ultimately the way your love story is told before the wedding day even arrives.
The good news is that you picked the right city. Tampa and St. Petersburg together form one of the most visually diverse metropolitan areas for engagement photography in the entire Southeast. Within 30 minutes of each other, you can find cobblestone streets thick with a century of history, open waterfront parks with skyline views, century-old botanical gardens, colorful murals that cover entire city blocks, and stretches of white-sand beach that face the Gulf of Mexico. The range here is genuinely extraordinary.
But here is something no venue directory will tell you: not every photogenic location is the right location for every couple. The light at a spot matters as much as what the spot looks like. How busy a location is on a Saturday evening affects your session. Whether you need a permit, how much it costs, and whether the timing actually works for golden hour at a given longitude matters. These are the things I know because I have shot them, not just listed them.
I am Aziz, the Tampa photographer behind Musaweron Photography, and I have photographed engagement sessions across both Tampa and St. Petersburg for years. This guide gives you the real picture for each of these 15 locations, what makes them beautiful, the specific photography conditions at each one, who each location suits best, and the practical details you need before you show up.
Why Tampa and St. Pete Are Two of Florida's Best Engagement Session Cities
Before we get into the list, it is worth understanding what makes this region so strong for engagement photography.
Tampa's golden hour runs warm and deep, particularly during the fall and winter months that make up peak engagement season in Florida. Because the region sits on the western side of the state facing the Gulf, the sun sets over open water, which means that at virtually every waterfront location in both cities, you get unobstructed golden and amber light flooding in from the west in the last 45 minutes before sunset. That is the light engagement portraits are made for.
St. Petersburg and Tampa also have genuine visual range. You can shoot something moody and cinematic in Ybor City's brick alleyways in the afternoon and then be standing in front of a grand Renaissance Revival hotel on the St. Pete waterfront at golden hour 35 minutes later. Very few cities in Florida, or the country, offer that combination.
The 15 locations below are organized so you can find your match by vibe. Read through and see which ones feel like you.
The Best Urban and Historic Engagement Photo Locations in Tampa
1. Ybor City Historic District
Best for: Couples who want texture, edge, and something that does not look like every other Florida engagement session
Address: 7th Avenue, Tampa, FL 33605
Permit required: No for public streets. Confirm with Ybor City Chamber of Commerce for specific commercial properties.
Best time: Golden hour, 45 to 90 minutes before sunset
If there is one location in all of Tampa that I recommend most consistently for couples who want images with genuine character, it is Ybor City. This National Historic Landmark District was built in the 1880s as the cigar capital of the world, and everything about the built environment here photographs with a richness that modern spaces simply cannot replicate.
The red brick streets of 7th Avenue, the wrought iron balconies on the historic buildings above the shops, the hand-painted tile work embedded into facades, the century-old architecture that shifts seamlessly between Spanish, Cuban, and Italian influences, all of it creates an endlessly varied visual palette for a portrait session. You could spend two hours in Ybor City and never run out of new backdrops.
The free-roaming chickens that are a famous part of Ybor's character? They actually make wonderful incidental details in wider shots. Lean into it.
Photography tip from Aziz: Walk south from 7th Avenue toward the quieter residential streets to find the most atmospheric alleyways and brick wall details. The late afternoon light coming down through the gaps between the historic buildings creates beautiful directional shadows that add incredible depth to couple portraits. Plan to arrive about 90 minutes before sunset to use both the street-level directional light and then the softer golden glow as the session finishes.
2. University of Tampa and Plant Park
Best for: Couples who love historic architecture, old-Florida romance, and wanted something grand without leaving downtown
Address: 401 W Kennedy Blvd, Tampa, FL 33606
Permit required: Contact University of Tampa communications office in advance
Best time: Late afternoon through golden hour
The University of Tampa campus is anchored by the former Tampa Bay Hotel, now home to the Henry B. Plant Museum, one of the most architecturally extraordinary buildings in all of Florida. Built in 1891 in a Moorish Revival style, the building features 13 silver minarets, ornate arched doorways, rich terracotta brickwork, and a scale that turns any couple standing in front of it into something that looks genuinely cinematic.
Plant Park, the green space surrounding the museum on the Hillsborough River, extends the session into softer natural territory with towering oak trees, Spanish moss, and river views. The combination of formal Moorish architecture and lush subtropical greenery makes this location capable of producing two completely different-feeling sets of images within walking distance of each other.
Photography tip from Aziz: The rotunda area inside the museum's main entrance is available to photograph during museum hours. If your session allows, a brief interior shoot in that ornate, domed space adds a moody, old-world editorial quality that no outdoor Tampa location can match. Check museum hours in advance and build this into your timeline.
3. Tampa Theatre
Address: 711 N Franklin St, Tampa, FL 33602
Best for: Couples who love vintage glamour, old Hollywood aesthetics, and want something truly iconic
Permit required: Contact Tampa Theatre directly. Exterior on Franklin Street is public.
Best time: Early evening, 60 to 90 minutes before sunset for exterior work
Tampa Theatre opened in 1926 and is one of the most beautifully preserved atmospheric movie palaces in the United States. The exterior marquee on Franklin Street is one of the most recognized visual landmarks in downtown Tampa, and it photographs with extraordinary warmth under evening light.
The ornate facade, the classic typography of the marquee lettering, the rich warm tones of the old terra cotta and decorative details, all work together to produce images that feel timeless and slightly editorial. This is a natural choice for couples who have a romantic affinity for classic cinema, vintage aesthetics, or simply love the idea of a backdrop that feels genuinely one of a kind in this city.
Photography tip from Aziz: The Franklin Street exterior works best when you move past the obvious marquee shot and explore the architectural details of the surrounding block. The neighboring historic buildings, the streetlights, and the way the late-day light hits the facade from the west at golden hour combine to produce some genuinely stunning wide-frame couple portraits. Avoid this location on evenings when a major showing begins, as the foot traffic on the sidewalk can be heavy.
4. Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park and the Tampa Riverwalk
Address: 600 N Ashley Dr, Tampa, FL 33602
Best for: Couples who want the downtown Tampa skyline in their photos and a walkable, explorable session along the river
Permit required: City of Tampa photography permit required for commercial photography. Apply at least two weeks in advance.
Best time: Golden hour, west-facing for sunset light over the river
Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park sits along the Hillsborough River in the heart of downtown Tampa and delivers the most recognizable Tampa skyline backdrop available at any engagement session location in the city. The park features wide green lawns, the iconic interactive fountains, modern public art, and direct sightlines across the river to the University of Tampa's minarets and beyond to the downtown skyline.
The Tampa Riverwalk extends the session options considerably. Walking north from Curtis Hixon toward Armature Works, you pass through Water Works Park, the Ulele Spring area, and a series of waterfront green spaces that provide variety and flow to a longer session.
Photography tip from Aziz: The most dramatic Tampa skyline portraits at this location come from the southern edge of the park, where you can frame the couple against the river with the city towers rising behind them and the warm amber sunset light coming in from the right. Time your session so you arrive at this position 20 minutes before sunset for the best light.
5. Armature Works and Water Works Park
Address: 1910 N Ola Ave, Tampa, FL 33602
Best for: Couples who love industrial-chic aesthetics, waterfront light, and architectural variety
Permit required: Note: Armature Works itself now requires a permit for commercial photography sessions on its property. Water Works Park adjacent to it is public and does not.
Best time: Sunset golden hour from the river-facing areas
Even without access to the interior of the building, the area surrounding Armature Works and the adjacent Water Works Park along the Riverwalk is among the most visually striking environments in all of Tampa. The restored brick facade of the 1910 building, the waterfront terraces, the view across the Hillsborough River at golden hour, and the dramatic rooftop silhouette all contribute to a session that looks genuinely polished and contemporary.
Water Works Park directly to the north of Armature Works is fully public, completely free to use without a permit for personal sessions, and provides open riverfront space with excellent western exposure for sunset light.
Photography tip from Aziz: Position for portraits from the Water Works Park riverbank looking back toward the Armature Works building at golden hour. The amber light on the old brick facade combined with the river reflection below creates one of the most photogenic compositions in downtown Tampa. Arrive early enough to walk the full stretch from Water Works north and south to identify the best framing angles before the light drops.
The Best Waterfront and Park Engagement Photo Locations in St. Petersburg

6. Vinoy Park and the Vinoy Renaissance Resort Grounds
Address: 500 Bay Shore Dr NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33701
Best for: Couples who want waterfront elegance, architectural grandeur, and the most photogenic golden hour in St. Pete
Permit required: Vinoy Park itself is public. The Vinoy Renaissance hotel grounds require prior arrangement with the hotel.
Best time: The 45 minutes before sunset for golden-hour light on the pink hotel facade
Vinoy Park is the crown jewel of St. Petersburg engagement photography, and I say that without any hesitation. The 1925 Vinoy Renaissance Resort, a Spanish Mediterranean Revival masterpiece in that extraordinary salmon-pink stucco with terracotta rooflines and ornate arched windows, sits directly on the waterfront, and when golden-hour light hits that facade, it turns into a warm rose tone that is one of the most photographically extraordinary moments in the entire Tampa Bay region.
The park itself extends from the hotel grounds along the waterfront with clean manicured paths, massive Banyan trees, Tampa Bay views, and a marina filled with sailboats that add visual interest and depth to wide-angle couple portraits. The combination of the resort architecture and the open park gives you two completely different moods within 200 yards of each other.
Photography tip from Aziz: Position the couple between the park's iconic Truth sculpture and the hotel facade for the session's anchor shot. Then move to the waterfront edge for the golden-hour silhouettes with the bay behind them. Finish with the marina sailboats in the background as the sky transitions into deeper blue tones after sunset. Three distinct locations, one seamless session.
7. North Straub Park
Address: 400 Bay Shore Dr NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33701
Best for: Couples who want the St. Pete skyline, waterfront calm, and a quieter atmosphere than the Vinoy area
Permit required: No for standard portrait sessions
Best time: Golden hour through blue hour after sunset
Straub Park sits directly adjacent to Vinoy Park and flows naturally into it, making the two easily combinable in a single session. Straub brings something slightly different: a series of Italian sculptures, a photogenic pergola, beautifully maintained waterfront promenades, and massive historic Banyan trees whose canopy creates natural framing for intimate couple portraits.
The Banyan trees are what I think about most at Straub Park. Their scale, the way the aerial roots hang and intertwine, and the dappled light that filters through the canopy in the late afternoon creates portrait opportunities that have a lush, layered quality unlike anything else in downtown St. Pete.
Photography tip from Aziz: Find the oldest, most dramatic Banyan tree in the park and use it as a portrait frame rather than a background. Have the couple stand in front of it looking through the hanging roots toward the bay. The depth and layering in the resulting image is extraordinary.
8. The St. Pete Pier
Address: 600 2nd Ave NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33701
Best for: Couples who want contemporary architecture, sweeping bay views, and a session with real energy and movement
Permit required: Photography permit may be required for commercial sessions. Contact the St. Pete Pier management in advance.
Best time: Golden hour through early evening for the lit pier and reflection shots
The redesigned St. Pete Pier that reopened in 2020 is one of the most visually dynamic locations in the entire Tampa Bay area. The bold contemporary architecture, the wide promenade extending 26 acres over Tampa Bay, the public art installations, the view back toward the downtown St. Pete skyline, and the extraordinary sunset light over the open water combine to create a session environment with genuine visual drama.
The pier at blue hour, when the sky transitions from amber to deep blue and the pier lights begin to glow, produces some of the most stunning evening engagement images available anywhere in the region.
Photography tip from Aziz: Begin the session on the pier in the last 30 minutes before sunset for the golden-hour waterfront portraits. Stay through blue hour for the illuminated pier reflection shots on the water. This 60-minute window produces two completely different aesthetic moods from one location, which is exceptionally efficient for couples who want variety.
9. Sunken Gardens
Address: 1825 4th St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33704
Best for: Couples who love lush tropical nature, old-Florida character, and a garden session unlike anything else in the region
Entry and permit fee: Admission plus a photography session fee is required. Contact Sunken Gardens directly for current rates. Note: they are open until 4:30 PM, so golden-hour timing is not possible here during longer daylight months.
Best time: Late morning through early afternoon when garden light is soft and even
Sunken Gardens is over 100 years old and home to more than 50,000 tropical plants, some of which have been growing on this property for generations. The garden paths wind through layers of lush Florida flora, past waterfalls, orchid collections, and the famous resident flamingos, all within four immaculate acres in the heart of St. Petersburg.
For engagement photography, Sunken Gardens produces something no other location in the region can: true natural depth. Every portrait at this location has three, four, five layers of tropical foliage behind the couple, which creates an image quality that looks simultaneously lush and intimate. The flamingos are obviously a beloved portrait stop, but the garden's deeper interior paths near the waterfall area are where the most dramatic and least-photographed backdrops actually live.
Photography tip from Aziz: Given the early closing time, plan a Sunken Gardens session as a morning or late-morning appointment rather than trying to force it into a traditional golden-hour timeline. The soft, diffused midday light under the tropical canopy is genuinely flattering and produces a completely different but beautiful aesthetic compared to golden-hour sessions.
10. St. Pete Downtown Arts District and Mural Walls
Address: Central Avenue and surrounding streets, St. Petersburg, FL
Best for: Couples who are creative, colorful, and want engagement images that feel like contemporary art rather than traditional portraits
Permit required: No for street-level photography on public sidewalks
Best time: Any time, though late afternoon light produces the best color saturation on mural surfaces
St. Petersburg has one of the most celebrated street art scenes in Florida, anchored by the annual SHINE Mural Festival that brings world-class artists to paint large-scale works across the city's downtown buildings. The murals in and around Central Avenue, the EDGE District, and the Grand Central neighborhood cover entire multi-story building facades in compositions that function as genuine fine art.
For engagement photography, the mural walls create bold, graphic backdrops that are impossible to replicate anywhere else and that produce images with a contemporary, editorial energy. This is the right location for couples whose aesthetic runs toward the creative, the artistic, and the unconventional.
Photography tip from Aziz: Spend 10 minutes on the St. Pete Mural Tour website before your session date to identify which murals are currently active and which best suit your outfit colors. A couple in warm terracotta against a cool blue mural, or wearing soft neutrals against a vivid abstract composition, creates the most visually dynamic contrast. Let the mural be the backdrop it is rather than competing with it.
The Best Nature and Garden Engagement Photo Locations Near Tampa and St. Pete

11. Philippe Park, Safety Harbor
Address: 2525 Philippe Pkwy, Safety Harbor, FL 34695
Best for: Couples who want ancient oak trees, dramatic Spanish moss, and a waterfront that feels completely removed from the city
Permit required: No for standard engagement sessions. Confirm with Safety Harbor Parks & Recreation for commercial use.
Best time: Late afternoon through golden hour
Philippe Park is one of the most underused and underappreciated engagement session locations in the entire Tampa Bay region, and I genuinely cannot understand why more couples do not end up here. The park sits on a bluff above Old Tampa Bay and features some of the oldest, most dramatically beautiful live oak trees in Pinellas County, many draped in cascading Spanish moss.
The stone staircase descending through the oak canopy toward the water is the location's most iconic element. The layered composition of the staircase structure, the arching oak canopy above it, the moss hanging in the foreground, and the water visible through the trees at the bottom creates portrait depth that most photographers would have to construct artificially. It is all naturally there.
Photography tip from Aziz: Arrive 90 minutes before sunset to use the oak canopy section during soft directional light, then move to the waterfront bluff for the open golden-hour portraits as the sun drops toward Tampa Bay. The combination of intimate forest portraits and open waterfront images in one session gives couples extraordinary variety.
12. Sawgrass Lake Park, St. Petersburg
Address: 7400 25th St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33702
Best for: Couples who want an ethereal, fairytale-quality nature session far from crowds
Permit required: No for personal and engagement sessions
Best time: Late morning through early afternoon for the most magical filtered canopy light
Sawgrass Lake Park is genuinely one of St. Pete's hidden gems for engagement photography, and it produces images with a quality that surprises people who do not know this location. The park's network of elevated boardwalks winds through a maple swamp and wetland habitat, with the walkways suspended above lily pad-covered water and old-growth trees forming a cathedral-like canopy overhead.
The filtered light that comes through that canopy is extraordinary. Soft, even, and rich with green and amber tones, it wraps around subjects in a way that the harsh direct Florida sun never could. The result is a naturally cinematic quality that does not require any supplemental lighting or time-of-day precision to achieve.
Photography tip from Aziz: Unlike most Florida locations where golden hour is everything, Sawgrass Lake Park actually photographs most beautifully in the hours between 9 AM and noon, when the overhead canopy filters the stronger midday sun into something soft and dimensional. This makes it a perfect pairing with a golden-hour session at a waterfront location the same day.
13. Fort De Soto Park
Address: 3500 Pinellas Bayway S, Tierra Verde, FL 33715
Best for: Couples who want pristine beach and untouched coastal Florida in a setting that feels a world apart
Permit required: No for personal sessions. Commercial photography permit required for professional shoots. Contact Pinellas County Parks for current permit details.
Best time: The 30 to 45 minutes before sunset along the Gulf-facing beach
Fort De Soto consistently ranks as one of the most beautiful parks in Florida, and its Gulf-facing North Beach is one of the most photogenic stretches of coastline in the entire Tampa Bay area. The white sand is exceptionally fine, the water is the kind of clear, warm turquoise that looks like a Caribbean brochure, and the park's protected status means there is no commercial development cluttering the horizon.
For engagement photography, Fort De Soto works best for couples who want a classic, romantic beach session with the kind of coastal beauty that feels genuinely pristine. The sunset here, with nothing between you and the Gulf horizon, produces some of the most dramatic beach portrait light in the region.
Photography tip from Aziz: Walk north from the main beach parking area to find the stretches of shoreline away from the main swimming areas. The more isolated the beach section, the more intimate and personal the images feel. The golden sea grass areas near the dunes are particularly beautiful for wider environmental portraits.
14. Davis Islands, Tampa
Address: Davis Islands, Tampa, FL 33606
Best for: Couples who want a blend of upscale residential Tampa charm, waterfront access, and a quieter, more private session feel
Permit required: No for public streets and parks
Best time: Late afternoon through sunset facing west over Hillsborough Bay
Davis Islands is one of Tampa's most desirable residential neighborhoods, a small island community just south of downtown with waterfront access on multiple sides, beautiful residential architecture, and a quiet character that makes for a very different kind of session compared to the busier downtown parks.
The western-facing waterfront of Davis Islands provides direct sightlines over Hillsborough Bay toward the sunset, producing genuinely beautiful golden-hour portraits in an environment that feels private and intimate despite being a public park. The downtown Tampa skyline is visible in the distance, adding that signature city backdrop without requiring you to be in the middle of it.
Photography tip from Aziz: Drive to the westernmost tip of Davis Islands where the small park and seaplane ramp sit on the water's edge. This is the most photogenic sunset spot on the island and one of the least crowded engagement locations in Tampa. The combination of the water, the grass, the palms, and the distant city skyline in warm evening light is quietly stunning.
15. Bok Tower Gardens, Lake Wales
Address: 1151 Tower Blvd, Lake Wales, FL 33853
Distance from Tampa: Approximately 60 miles, about 75 to 90 minutes
Best for: Couples who want something truly extraordinary and are willing to make the drive for engagement images unlike anything else in Florida
Entry and permit fee: Garden admission plus a photography session permit required. Contact Bok Tower Gardens directly for current commercial photography permit details and to verify session availability.
Best time: Morning sessions, 9 to 11 AM, or late afternoon in fall and winter
Bok Tower Gardens is the only location on this list that requires a real commitment, and it is worth every minute of it. The property sits on Iron Mountain, the highest point in peninsular Florida at 298 feet, and features 250 acres of formal gardens, orange groves, rolling hills, ancient Florida live oaks, and the iconic 205-foot Singing Tower at its center, a Gothic and Art Deco carillon tower that is one of the most photographically stunning structures in the Southeast.
The landscape at Bok Tower is unlike anything else available within reasonable driving distance of Tampa. The rolling topography, which is genuinely rare in flat South Florida, creates a sense of depth and perspective in portraits that flat-ground locations cannot replicate. The garden paths, lily ponds, azalea borders, ancient oak canopies, and formal European-inspired landscaping combine to produce images that look less like Central Florida and more like something out of an English countryside estate.
Photography tip from Aziz: Morning sessions at Bok Tower are when this location is at its absolute best. The soft morning light filtering through the ancient oak canopy, the quieter crowds before midday, and the mist that sometimes hangs over the lower garden areas in cooler months creates an atmospheric, almost otherworldly quality. If you are considering Bok Tower, build it as a full morning destination rather than cramming it into a late-afternoon golden-hour schedule.
How to Choose the Right Engagement Photo Location for Your Session

With 15 options in front of you, narrowing it down can feel harder than it did before. Here is the framework I walk my couples through.
Start with your aesthetic, not your address. The question is not "what is closest to us" but "what kind of images do we want?" If you both light up at the idea of moody urban brick and late-evening city light, Ybor City is your answer. If you want lush, dreamy tropical gardens, Sunken Gardens or Sawgrass Lake Park is where your gallery belongs. Let your visual preference lead.
Think about your season. Tampa Bay engagement photography peaks in October through February, when the weather is more forgiving for outdoor sessions. Summer sessions are absolutely possible but require early morning or golden-hour timing to manage the heat and humidity. Sunken Gardens closes at 4:30 PM year-round, which limits golden-hour access during longer summer days. Factor these realities into your planning.
Consider combining two locations. A standard 60 to 90-minute engagement session can comfortably accommodate two locations within the same area. Curtis Hixon Park and Ybor City are 10 minutes apart. Vinoy Park and Straub Park flow directly into each other. Davis Islands and the Tampa waterfront are a 10-minute drive. Two locations give your gallery more variety and more story.
Ask about permits before you plan your date. Several locations on this list, including the Riverwalk, Armature Works property, the St. Pete Pier, Fort De Soto, and Bok Tower Gardens, require photography permits that must be arranged in advance. Do not find this out the evening of your session. When you book with Musaweron Photography, we handle permit research for your chosen locations as part of the pre-session consultation.
When Should You Book Your Tampa Engagement Session?
This question comes up in almost every inquiry I receive, and the answer has real practical implications.
Book your engagement session 4 to 8 weeks after getting engaged, so you have time to enjoy the engagement before jumping into logistics. But do not wait more than 3 to 4 months before booking your photographer and session date.
In Tampa and St. Pete, fall and early winter dates, specifically October through January, book up quickly because the weather is the most comfortable for outdoor sessions and the golden-hour light during this season is particularly warm and beautiful. If you are planning a spring or summer 2027 wedding and need engagement images for your save-the-dates, which typically go out 8 to 12 months before the wedding, booking your session for fall 2026 is the right move.
Sessions that involve locations requiring permits, like Bok Tower, the Riverwalk, or Fort De Soto, need additional advance planning time for the permit process. Budget at least three to four weeks for permit applications.
Book Your Tampa or St. Pete Engagement Session with Musaweron Photography

Every location on this list is a place I know personally. I know where the light falls at 5:45 PM in November. I know which corner of Ybor City catches the best late-day directional light. I know when the St. Pete Pier is manageable for a session versus when the weekend crowds make intimate portraits nearly impossible. I know which Vinoy Park position puts the hotel facade in the warmest possible light before the sun drops behind it. That knowledge is not something you get from a guide. It comes from being there, repeatedly, and paying close attention.
At Musaweron Photography, every engagement session begins with a planning consultation where we map out your specific locations, your timeline, the look you are going for, and the practical details that make a session actually work. Whether you already have a location in mind or need help choosing from the options above, I would love to walk through it with you.
Frequently Asked Questions About Engagement Photos in Tampa and St. Pete
What is the most popular engagement photo location in Tampa, FL?
Ybor City and the University of Tampa are consistently among the most requested Tampa engagement locations because of their distinctive architectural character and the quality of late-afternoon light at each spot. On the waterfront side, Curtis Hixon Park and the Riverwalk area offer the classic downtown Tampa skyline backdrop that many couples want in their session.
Do I need a permit for engagement photos in Tampa or St. Pete?
It depends on the specific location. Public parks and streets generally do not require permits for personal photography, but commercial photography sessions, which include any session where a professional photographer is hired, may require a permit at certain locations. The Tampa Riverwalk, Fort De Soto Park, the St. Pete Pier, Bok Tower Gardens, and Sunken Gardens all require advance arrangements. Your photographer should research this for your specific location.
What time of year is best for engagement photos in Tampa, FL?
October through February is the peak season for outdoor engagement sessions in Tampa and St. Pete. The weather is cooler, the humidity is significantly lower, and the golden-hour light during fall and winter is particularly warm and beautiful. Spring sessions, March through May, are also excellent. Summer sessions require careful early-morning or late-golden-hour timing to manage heat and humidity.
How many locations can we do in one engagement session?
For a 60 to 90-minute session, two locations that are close together work well. For a longer two-hour session, up to three locations is manageable without feeling rushed. I generally recommend choosing locations within a 10 to 15-minute drive of each other to preserve session time for actual photography rather than travel.
Can we bring our dog to our engagement session?
Absolutely, and I strongly encourage it if your dog is a central part of your life together. Most outdoor public park locations on this list are dog-friendly. Vinoy Park, Straub Park, Philippe Park, Davis Islands, Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, and Fort De Soto all welcome leashed dogs. Sunken Gardens and Bok Tower Gardens do not permit pets. Just bring a handler, ideally a friend or family member, to manage your dog when they are not actively part of the frame.
